As a native of China with over 10 years of product sourcing experience, I know China’s wholesale markets inside and out—from bustling mega-hubs to hidden local gems. There’s so much to share, so I’ve divided it into sections. Take your time and check out the parts that interest you the most.

8 Major China wholesale markets online: which suits your business?

Alibaba

Many international buyers prefer to source from Alibaba. As the world’s leading B2B marketplace, you can find suppliers for everything, from screws to yacht parts, with an incredible range of options.

Plus a user-friendly interface and frequent updates, Alibaba offers a level of convenience and variety that’s hard to match by other wholesale sites.

Made in China and Global Sources

To differentiate themselves from Alibaba, these platforms focus on specific product categories:

  • Made in China focuses on industrial products like machinery, hardware tools, and chemical equipment, offering a wider selection of suppliers in these fields.
  • Global Sources specializes in gifts and consumer electronics.

These three platforms are common in high MOQs, usually 1,000 pieces or more per style. And buyers have to verify suppliers and compare product prices plus quality on their own. If you only search for Chinese suppliers on these 3 platforms, you are limiting yourself and are missing out on hundreds of good opportunities.

JingSourcing

As a leading sourcing company in China since 2015, JingSourcing can help you find the right factory in the right industrial clusters. Compared with Alibaba, their MOQ and product price have more advantages, friendly to startups and small businesses.

They also manage every step of the China sourcing process, assisting fast-growing e-commerce, supermarkets, and other large businesses in improving sourcing efficiency, controlling quality, and optimizing their supply chains.

Regarding private label products and new product development, they have extensive experience and provide proven, effective solutions, expertly handling every step of your project.

DHgate

DHgate specializes in small wholesale orders. Most suppliers offer flexible tiered pricing, such as 5 dog sweaters at $4.9 each or 10 at $3.9 each. The preferred option for small buyers with a limited budget, purchasing dozens of items per style for just a few hundred dollars.

1688 and Yiwugo

  • 1688 and Alibaba are both launched by the Alibaba Group, but 1688 is a local Chinese B2B platform.
  • Yiwugo is the online version of the Yiwu market, specializing in small products like accessories and daily goods.

The primary buyers of 1688 and Yiwugo are local Chinese businesses. Some experienced foreign buyers who speak fluent Chinese also use the two platforms, for example, directly asking, “这款混批最低多少件起订?” (What’s the minimum order quantity for mixed batches?)

For inexperienced overseas buyers, I wouldn’t recommend using 1688 or Yiwugo directly. Most suppliers on these platforms have limited English skills. Language and cultural differences can make communication tricky and complicated.

If you insist on using 1688 or Yiwugo for wholesale, I strongly recommend working with a reliable sourcing agent to help mitigate risks and ensure smooth sourcing from China.

AliExpress

AliExpress is launched by the Alibaba Group as China’s largest B2C platform. AliExpress is a good choice if you:

BTW, AliExpress also supports small wholesale with additional discounts like 3% or 5%. While it doesn’t have clear wholesale price tiers like DHgate, you can still compare AliExpress and DHgate to find the best deal.

Are suppliers in China wholesale markets all factories?

Just like suppliers on B2B online platforms, suppliers in wholesale markets can be factories or intermediaries.

In addition, many buyers think factories offer cheaper products, but that’s not always true. On one hand, many suppliers claim to be factories, which can be hard to verify if they are real factories without experience. On the other hand, some established trading companies with years of industry experience can offer lower prices than new, small factories.

What should I do before visiting these wholesale markets?

First, list the product types you want to source. Then, choose the right wholesale markets. Without a plan, you may waste time and money without finding what you need. Take Guangzhou markets for example, which are spread across different districts, you’re easily lost.

Also, plan your transportation and accommodation. Choose a hotel close to the markets for convenience.

How to get to these wholesale markets from overseas?

For wholesale markets in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, and Jinjiang, you can fly directly to these cities and then take a taxi, bus, or subway to the markets.

If going to Yiwu and other county-level cities like Yongkang and Keqiao, there are no direct international flights. You’ll need to transfer, with common hubs including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Hangzhou.

If you’re planning to visit Chinese wholesale markets and want to know how to get there from overseas, feel free to leave us a comment or chat with us.
