Last week, we took a group of hardware buyers from Senegal, West Africa, to the Yiwu Market. They run a wholesale and retail hardware business in Dakar.
In the past, they mainly sourced from wholesale markets in Dubai, including Deira and Dragon Mart. As their business grew, they wanted to come directly to China to find new suppliers and update their supply chain.
They saw our TikTok video about the Yiwu hardware market, which sparked their curiosity about the market. That’s why Yiwu became their first stop in China.
Yiwu Hardware Market: A One-Stop Sourcing Destination
Most hardware suppliers at Yiwu International Trade Market are located on the second floor of District 2, especially in sections F and G.
Here, buyers can find a wide range of hardware products, including fasteners, plumbing hardware, door and window hardware, and hand tools.
This time, they came to China to look for hand tools and fasteners, including products that were already selling well and some new items they wanted to try in their market.
All the products they selected from different suppliers were sent to our warehouse for quality inspection and repacking before consolidated shipping.
They also wanted to customize some power tools with their own logo and housing colors, so we took them to a power tool factory in Yongkang that we’ve worked with for many years.
Yongkang: China’s Power Tool Capital
Yongkang is about 60 km from Yiwu, roughly a one-hour drive away. Known as China’s Hardware Capital, it is a leading hardware industry cluster.
The city is home to more than 30,000 hardware-related suppliers and covers over 10,000 hardware product categories, including power tools, hand tools, garden tools, and more.
Among them, Yongkang stands out for its power tool manufacturing capabilities, with at least 50% of the world’s power tools produced here.
The local supply chain includes more than 1,700 power tool manufacturers and supporting companies, covering motors, gears, molds, components, final assembly, testing, and production equipment.
Many local factories are flexible in new product development and customization requests. This makes Yongkang a great place for overseas buyers looking for reliable OEM/ODM partners, especially for small-batch orders.
Inside a power tool factory with 25 years of experience
We stepped into the factory and started in the showroom, where the factory displayed its main product lines, including brushless cordless drills, impact wrenches, and screwdrivers.
The range covered 12V to 36V battery platforms and different specifications, from drilling and fastening to grinding and cutting.
We also saw a wide selection of tool accessories, including drill bits, saw blades, grinding discs, and screwdriver bits in different sizes and types.
The factory owner told us that he had been in the power tool business for 25 years. Today, his factory produces over 2 million tools annually and exports to more than a dozen countries.
He also mentioned that they have many African buyers, with brushless cordless drills, rotary hammers, and demolition hammers among the most frequently reordered products.
Most power tool components come from local suppliers. Take this brushless cordless drill as an example.
The factory only produces the motor in-house, while other components, including the control board, battery pack, plastic housing, and gearbox, are sourced from local suppliers in Yongkang.
Following a brushless cordless drill through production
In the workshop, we watched how brushless cordless drills are made.
The first step was motor production. We were surprised to see that more than 10 steps were handled entirely by automated machines. Each motor was then tested for balance at high speed. Laser sensors detected even tiny imbalances, and the machines made precise adjustments to ensure smooth operation.
Next comes the assembly line, where workers put the motor and other components together.They first install the gearbox, then connect the control board and internal wiring before fitting the housing.

Power Tool Customization Options: MOQ & Cost
For ready-stock power tools, the MOQ can be as low as a few dozen pieces. For buyers who want their own branding logo or product changes, customization options range from simple logo printing to full product development.
Logo customization:
The simplest option is adding your own logo. Screen printing or laser engraving usually requires an MOQ of 300 pieces per model, with an additional cost of around $0.15 per piece.
Color & battery customization：
For buyers who want to make small product changes, such as changing the color or battery configuration, the MOQ is usually around 500 pieces. These changes may increase the unit price by about 10%.
Housing & mold development:
For buyers who want a different housing design, new molds are usually required. This type of customization typically needs an MOQ of around 3,000 pieces.
New product development:
For buyers who want a completely new design, the development costs are much higher because injection-molded parts, electronic components, and other parts all need to be developed from scratch. R&D costs are typically at least $30,000, with an MOQ of about 5,000 units.
Beyond Yongkang: The Hardware Industrial Belt Map
Yongkang is only one part of China’s hardware supply chain. When searching for hardware tools on Alibaba, you’ll find suppliers from many other regions across China. Each area has its own strengths and focuses on different product categories.
Zhejiang and nearby: architectural, furniture & machining tools
In Zhejiang, Cixi and Yuyao are also major hardware manufacturing hubs, about a two-hour drive from Yiwu. They are known for precision hardware such as door lock components, hinges, drawer slides, and pipe fittings.
These products require precision manufacturing processes such as stamping and electroplating.
About a four-hour drive north of Yiwu, Danyang in Jiangsu Province is a major manufacturing base for drilling and cutting tools, especially high-speed steel (HSS) twist drill bits.
Pearl River Delta: power tools, locks & furniture hardware
From Yiwu, you can reach the Pearl River Delta in about six hours by high-speed rail or around two hours by plane. As China’s second-largest hardware tools industry cluster, the region includes cities such as Dongguan, Zhongshan, and Foshan, each with its own strengths.
Dongguan has a strong manufacturing base for precision power tools and related equipment, including digital torque tools and pneumatic wrenches.
Zhongshan is well known for its lock hardware industry, producing mechanical locks, lock cylinders, and smart locks.
With strong capabilities in precision machining, stamping, and electronic integration, the local supply chain covers the full production range, from individual lock components, such as lock bodies, cylinders, keys, springs, and other hardware parts, to complete finished locks.
Foshan has a well-established furniture hardware industry cluster. The area specializes in door and window hardware, furniture hardware, and bathroom hardware.
Linyi: large-volume & multi-category hardware
About an eight-hour drive from Yiwu, Linyi is one of the largest hardware industry clusters in northern China. The area specializes in hand tools, agricultural tools, and related hardware products, including pliers, hammers, axes, wrenches, saw blades, picks, and hoes.
Thanks to its large-scale warehousing and efficient logistics network, Linyi is a good choice for buyers sourcing large volumes or multiple product categories at once.
