Essentially, the mattress price depends on the materials, quality, and manufacturing techniques.
For example, memory foam mattresses are more expensive than regular foam mattresses. While foam mattresses are made of polyurethane foam (PU foam) material, memory foam mattresses are a mix of polyurethane foam (PU foam) and gel materials, making the production process more complex.
Additionally, the foam density and processing affect the hardness of the foam/memory foam, which is one of the key factors determining mattress firmness. Typically, higher density mattresses are more durable, provide better support, and therefore are more expensive.

Different countries and markets have different requirements for mattresses.
Taking the US as an example, all mattresses and mattress pads must have a fire label and comply with the mattress flammability safety standards set by the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
For general-use products, a General Certificate of Conformity (GCC) must be prepared to demonstrate compliance with product safety rules – 16 C.F.R. parts 1632 and 1633.
For crib mattresses (intended for children aged 12 and under), product safety standards are stricter, with additional requirements of ASTM F2933-21 and 16 CFR part 1241. It’s a must to prepare a Children’s Product Certificate, which is issued by a CPSC-accepted third-party laboratory to demonstrate the products have passed testing and comply with ASTM and CPSIC requirements.
If the mattress shipment is intended for medical purposes, it can be exempt from the flammability requirements of 16 CFR part 1633 but is subject to FDA (Food and Drug Administration) requirements.
