Why Does Steve Work with Us?

Steve was facing an 8-month production delay by his original napkin supplier while he was going to run out of stock within 2 months, which makes it urgent to find a new supplier to customize and manufacture 4,800 napkins fast. Since buying from Alibaba usually takes longer than 2 months and attending the Canton Fair was clearly not an option under the global quarantine, Steve turned to us and had the first call with our founder Jing.
Here are the product specifications,
Quantity: 4800 Napkins
Materials: 55%Linen / 45%Cotton
Color: White
Size: 20*20Inches
Hem: 1.5Inches
Weight of Fabric: 150GSM

At first, some factories can’t accept this order due to the small quantity and the intense delivery time (2 months), and the other factories are not willing to accept this order because of Steve’s strict requirements on his products. Three days later, we managed to match a factory that could handle this order. Then we sent the sample to Steve to confirm whether it was what he expected.
After receiving the sample, Steve specified 5 things that need to be improved,
  • The napkin shouldn’t have deep wrinkles.
  • Define the exact material thickness.
  • Make the size error to be within +/-0.3 inches.
  • Unacceptable imperfections in stitching.
  • There shouldn’t be black color lines in the fabric.

Steve was satisfied with the second sample and paid us a 30% deposit, then we made a mass production schedule that would be around 8 weeks.
Purchase fabric: 1 week
Produce bulk: 5 weeks
Washing&Ironing&Packing: 2 weeks
Our factory promised to finish the bulk by October 5th. If they were late by even a single week, they would refund the full deposit back.
To make sure the factory finishes the production on time, we have to closely monitor the production process in real-time. Because in our experience, there tend to be new problems in the mass production period. If new defects appear in the product, we will tell the factory to fix them promptly even if Steve did not list them in the checklist in advance.

I would never have been able to address these issues so quickly without Jingsourcing. Inspection companies are typically not this communicative.

Steve’s packaging budget was about 27 cents per unit, so we chose PE bags for product packaging. When we sent Steve the sample, he was so focused on defining the product that he neglected the packaging bag. After the mass production was completed and we started packing, we found out that the glue is applied too far away from the edge of seals which will leave part of the packing seal curled up in the middle of the air instead of closely stuck onto the bag. So, we addressed that issue immediately.
QC is a very important step when purchasing goods from China, especially for eCommerce sellers. Many of my Amazon clients require a 0 defect rate. Here are Steve’s QC requirements,
  • A defect ratio below 3%: defective items that are not included in the 3% ratio will be fully refunded.
  • We need to inspect the finished goods 1 by 1.

For the following two reasons, we shipped goods to Steve in three different batches by FedEx:

  • Steve was in a hurry to replenish stock, so we decided to ship in batches instead of waiting before all goods are ready.
  • Containers were in short supply during the COVID-19 pandemic, so it was slow and expensive by sea shipping.
So for the above two reasons, we send goods to Steve by FedEx. The shipping cost is $4092 in total for roughly 25 cartons of 40 lbs each.

Benefit & Result

Steve was very pleased with our first collaboration,

  • Our factory finished mass production before the appointed date.
  • Steve added 2,400 PCS to the original 4,800 PCS and ordered 7,200 PCS in total.
  • 9.4% or 683 pcs were defective, but our factory fully refunded the exceeded 6.4% of the defective items as agreed.

In case you are wondering why I show you this small project, I just want to tell you that whether it’s a small project like this napkin or a big project like some electronics, we can always be very compatible with the needs of our clients. Moreover, we can also offer our suggestions or fix new flaws directly based on our experience to make sourcing from China easier. As Steve said,

The main reason to use a China sourcing agent like Jingsourcing is to save time and money on your next production run. A China sourcing agent can also help you take an idea for a product and have it built by a factory in China.
